Midnight Run

Quick Info
Midnight Run is a 1988 action-comedy film that involves a laconic bounty hunter Jack Walsh (Robert De Niro) who must escort fast-talking embezzler Jonathan Mardukas (Charles Grodin) from New York to LA to face trial. Amidst their journey, the duo find themselves embroiled in mob schemes and FBI interventions. This Robert De Niro classic swings beautifully between humor and drama, giving us an entertaining glimpse into the complicated bounty hunter life.
Charles Grodin's performance as the neurotic, health-conscious white-collar criminal is commendable as it balances out De Niro's rough-around-the-edges character. The moments of unexpected camaraderie and mutual respect that bubbles up between these polar opposite characters were what stood out the most for me.
The only downside might be the predictability of the plot. But honestly, what you may foresee doesn’t take away from the movie’s witty vitality. If you love action comedies that pack a bit of heat with their humor, Midnight Run is an unpolished gem that you need to see.
