Quick Info

If you’re looking for an action flick that pushes the envelope in terms of brutality and relentless pace, "The Night Comes for Us" is a wild ride. Set in Jakarta’s criminal underworld, it follows Ito, a triad enforcer who betrays his organization to save a young girl, triggering a cascade of over-the-top showdowns. The plot is straightforward, but it’s really just a vehicle for the incredible, fast-paced fight choreography.

What really stood out to me was the sheer inventiveness and intensity of the action scenes. It’s not just gunfights or basic hand-to-hand combat—almost every object in a room gets turned into a weapon, and the camerawork makes it all feel chaotic but comprehensible. It stars Joe Taslim and Iko Uwais, both martial arts stars, and their physical performances alone are worth the watch. Some moments are so gnarly that I found myself wincing and laughing in equal measure.

It’s definitely not for everyone—the violence is extreme, almost cartoonishly so at times, and the story doesn’t dig too deep into character development. But if you loved "The Raid" movies or just want to see how far action can go, this is up your alley. For me, it was a breathless, edge-of-your-seat experience that stands out in the action genre, even if it does get a little exhausting by the end.
